Resources and Organisations in Britain and Abroad

Since the Oral History Society launched its own website many more oral history groups and organisations, in Britain and abroad, have done likewise. Many more members of the Society now have access to the Internet with email facilities, and are able to explore oral history projects and collections right around the globe. The listing that appears below is by no means exhaustive but it does feature particularly useful and well-developed sites, those that make use of audio extracts, and those with lots of useful hypertext links to other sites.

Please send us more suggestions, particularly for any UK sites that you feel should be on this list, but also comments about your own experiences of using the Web.

Back issues of the Journal of the Oral History Society are also available. They feature wide-ranging news reports on oral history work in Britain and abroad, information on conferences and meetings, reviews, letters, in-depth articles, practical and comprehensive advice on techniques and equipment. Issues are often thematic and have included: childhood, women's history, health care, war, politics, reminiscence, the national curriculum, the sea, work, museums, ethnicity, popular memory and family history.
