Expertise:
- Since the 1960s he has used ongoing "serial" fieldwork, with a wide variety of media, to record and film aspects of cultural tradition and vernacular arts of Britain and Ireland
- Worked on the BBC "Radio Ballads" (1957-64) with Charles Parker, Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger
- Involved with the "Hackney Peoples Autobiographies" an oral testimony based project at Centreprise Bookshop with Raphael Samuels, Anna Davin and Ken Worpole in the early 70s
- Co-director of The Sound and Video Archive of London History Workshop Centre from 1984 -1991
His own books: include "We'll Call Once More Unto Your House" [1982], "With a Crashe and a Din" [1984], "Living Memories" [1988]. A series of education books: May[1993], Midwinter[1994] and "From Plough Monday to Hocktide" [1995].
